Inspiring students
YMACC provides hands-on learning opportunities through student volunteers, internships, and research projects that prepare the next generation of conservation scientists.

Hands-On Learning
From volunteer experiences to independent research projects, YMACC supports students at every stage of their educational and professional journey.
01
Volunteers
Volunteers work alongside researchers on daily animal care, water quality monitoring, and system checks.
02
Interns
Student interns gain practical experience by working with researchers on freshwater conservation projects, developing skills in laboratory techniques, fieldwork, and species propagation.
03
Research Projects
YMACC mentors students completing independent research projects for academic credit, providing opportunities to design, conduct, and communicate conservation research.

Student Spotlight
Students who have trained at Yates Mill Aquatic Conservation Center have contributed directly to ongoing freshwater mussel research and conservation efforts while gaining hands-on experience in propagation, experimental design, and aquatic animal husbandry.
