Hosts
Dwarf Wedgemussel can metamorphose on several darter species, but the Tessellated Darter (Etheostoma olmstedi) is the most efficient host in North Carolina.

Habitat
In North Carolina, this species appears to be restricted to a few isolated headwater streams.

Larvae
The Dwarf Wedgemussel larvae are about 0.3 mm long and have hooks that allow them to attach to either gills or fins or their hosts.
Luring Behavior
The Dwarf Wedgemussel has a very subtle display, attempting to attract their primary host, which is the Tessellated Darter (Etheostoma olmstedi).
